Our cattle are:
always on pasture,
never ever given
A FOCUS ON GENETICS, QUALITY AND HEALTH
It's ok. You can ask it, we certainly did. Why Not Organic? Organic is great. 90% of the food in the fridges and freezers of the grounded team is certified organic. We love CCOF! If we are being completely honest, it boils down to a few things, genetics, taste and appropriate timely health care for animals we love dearly.
As we begin our beef program, getting the right genetics to ensure taste and quality is key. The conventional cattle industry has spent the last 50 years selecting for bigger and bigger cattle that perform well in feed yards where they fatten them on grain and pump them full of antibiotics and growth hormones.
Feedlot genetics are not the same genetics you want for a grassfed animal. Unfortunately so much of the grassfed beef you find in the meat case are these enormous feed lot genetics.
We decided that rather than have “ok” genetics and organic animals we wanted quality grass finishing genetics honed in over decades. That’s what we found to put on your table and ours. We work with a breeder that has spent decades refining and tinkering to produce some of the best genetics for grassfed beef in California.
The animals spend all their lives on lush grass in pastures and the last third of their life will be spent on certified organic pastures. Additionally our management team has both an organic livestock handler certificate and is GAP (Animal Welfare) certified. These animals are never given hormones, steroids, subtherapeutic antibiotics or grain.
